Direction of Intention
O my God, I give you this day. I offer you now all the good that I shall do and I promise to accept for love of you, all the difficulty I shall meet. Help me to conduct myself during this day in a manner pleasing to you. Amen.
Morning Offering (St. Ignatius of Loyola)
Take, Lord, and receive my entire liberty – my memory, my understanding, my entire will.
All that I am and all that I have, You have given to me.
These are my greatest gifts, and now I offer them back to you.
Give me only your love and grace.
With these I will be rich enough, and I will ask for nothing more.
Amen.
Ministry Prayer
Loving God of all creation, we praise and thank you for the gift of our Visitation charism, so beautifully reflected in the lives of our founders, Francis and Jane.
May their spirit of strong faith and gentle kindness inspire our lives as we minister to our colleagues and students.
Help us to find an inner personal gentleness and a simple openness and sensitivity to your presence within our hearts.
Open us to the Salesian spirit of love expressed in humility, gentleness, simplicity, and joy as we work with one another in the reality of daily living.
Lead us to recognize the diversity of gifts among us and to respect one another’s uniqueness and liberty of spirit.
Help us also to experience the strength that is found in unity, especially in those moments when understanding and encouragement are needed.
As we grasp the charism of the Visitation by living in union with your holy will, may each of us reflect a gentle strength born of humble dependence on you.
Guide us to discover your will as it unfolds in prayer, in the events of our lives, and in the ever-changing needs of those with whom we work.
Finally, allow Jesus to live in our hearts so that He may live in our actions.
We ask all this in the hope that we will continue to grow through the power of the Gospel, so that we may shine forth as a people made one in the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of Virgins, our Mother; to you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petition, but in your mercy graciously hear and answer us. Amen.
Peace
Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same Everlasting Father Who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.
– St. Francis de Sales
Novena of Confidence to the Sacred Heart
Lord Jesus, to your Sacred Heart I entrust (mention request).
Look upon me, then do as your Heart thinks best. I trust You. I count on your mercy.
Lord Jesus, You will not fail me. I believe in your love for me. May your kingdom come!
Lord Jesus, I have asked for many favors, but I earnestly beg for this one.
Take it, place it in your Sacred Heart. Then it will be no longer my prayer but yours, O Jesus. Amen.
Sacred Heart Prayers
O Heart of Love I put all my trust in Thee, for I fear all things from my own weakness,
But I hope for all things from Thy goodness. Amen. – Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I give you this day. Amen.
Credo of a Christian Humanist
As a Christian humanist:
I believe in the dignity, worth and responsible liberty of each of my students. Therefore, I try to approach each of them in a gentle, kind, and trusting manner. I wish to nurture their good traits and through loving persuasion challenge them to move beyond their human weaknesses. I realize that frequently I am unaware of the painful circumstances in their lives. This realization encourages me to extend to them a kind, loving hand and a trustful heart.
Live Jesus
Live, Jesus, Live… so live in me
That all I do be done by thee.
And grant that all I think and say
May be thy thoughts and words today.
Carrying Christ
by Ruth Mary Fox
Into the hillside country
Mary went, carrying Christ,
And all along the road
The Christ she carried
Generously Bestowed His grace
On those she met.
I pray that I may carry Christ,
For it may be
That some would never know of Him
Except through me.
Prayer of St. Francis de Sales
Lord, I am yours, and I must belong to no one but you.
My soul is yours and must live only by you.
My will is yours, and must love only for you.
I must love you as my first cause, since I am from you.
I must love you as my end and rest, since I am for you.
I must love you more than my own being, since my being subsists by you.
I must love you more than myself, since I am all yours and all in you.
Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55, NIV)
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
for the Mighty One has done great things for me—holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham
and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.
Prayer of St. Jane de Chantal
I want nothing but God:
to rest in God completely, being strengthened more and more to serve God
by my total dependence on God’s divine Providence,
always more firmly anchored in the faith of God’s true word
and completely abandoned to God’s mercy and care.
O eternal and fatherly goodness!
My heart opens itself to you.
The Peace Prayer of St. Francis de Sales
Be at Peace
Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;
rather look to them with full hope as they arise.
God, whose very own you are,
will deliver you from out of them.
He has kept you hitherto,
and He will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will bury you in his arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same everlasting Father who cares for you today
will take care of you then and everyday.
He will either shield you from suffering,
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace,
and put aside all anxious thoughts and imagination.
Come Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth.
Oh, God, you teach the hearts of your faithful by the light of your Holy Spirit,
grant us by the same Holy Spirit to be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola for a Generous Spirit
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve; to give, and not to count the cost;
to fight and not to heed the wounds; to labor, and not to seek to rest;
to give of myself and not to ask for reward, except the reward of knowing that I am doing your will.
Take, O Lord, and receive my entire liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will.
All that I am, all that I have, you have given to me,
and I will give it back to you to be disposed of according to your good pleasure.
Give me your love and your graces; with you I am rich enough, nor do I ask for anything besides.
Amen.
Prayer for All Occasions
Lord, may everything we do begin with your inspiration and continue with your help, so that all our prayers and works may begin in you and by you be happily ended.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
